Cyndi Lauper said it best: “Girls just want to have fun!” And what better day to blast the hit song on your radio, than Galentine’s Day? Galentine’s Day is a day filled with love and appreciation for the special ladies in your life. Romantic partners come and go, but friendships last forever!
On February 13th, gather all your girlfriends and commemorate the relationships that have brought you smiles, laughter, and comfort. Whether you’re planning a girl’s night in or a girl’s night out...
Here are some tips for the perfect day with your gal pals:
1. Send Your Invitations
Traditionally celebrated on the day before Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day sometimes falls on busy weekdays. Make sure you accommodate your friend’s schedules and plan your party for the weekend before or after if needed.
If you’d like a cozy and intimate Galentine’s Day party, plan for a girls’ night in. But if you were hoping for a day on the town or a girls’ night out... Here are the perfect options for you: brunch, a spa day, a private chef experience, a sip and paint studio, or a rooftop bar.
2. Shop for Fun Decorations
The right decorations will set the tone of your party perfectly. Red, pink, and white are the three must-have colors in your decoration palette. Don’t forget to include heart-shaped everything! Roses, candles, Galentine’s day themed streamers, balloons, tablecloths, and candy are a great place to start.
But if you have no idea what you’re doing, don’t worry! Pinterest is the perfect place to find insta-worthy decorations that will make you and your girlfriends swoon.
3. Drinks and The Menu
You know the saying, “you eat with your eyes first?” You want your friends to fall in love with their drinks and your menu. Starting with drinks, display some beautiful bottles of red wines and pink rosé. You can even customize the wine bottle labels to say something like: “Happy Galentine’s Day”, “GALS”, or any other cutesy saying.
If you’re feeling ambitious, you can make your own concoctions with love! Keep in mind, not everyone drinks alcohol. For your friends who don’t drink, you can make a pretty pink punch or pink lemonade to include them in the festivities.
As for the food, the opportunities are endless. Heart-shaped treats are a must, whether it be heart-shaped charcuterie boards, pizza, or pasta. Once you’ve decided on your main dishes, it’s time for everyone’s favorite... Desserts!
Strawberries and Chocolate are the most traditional Valentine’s Day treat, so make sure to include some heart-shaped strawberries with some chocolate. And we can’t forget about all the other delicious desserts that are calling our names! Heart-shaped cake, cupcakes, cookies, pies, and meringues, topped with pink frosting, or heart sprinkles.
4. Plan Games and Activities
Watching rom-coms is a no-brainer for your Galentine’s Day celebration. Here are some of the most loveable rom-coms: 27 Dresses, When Harry Met Sally, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and Something Borrowed. These films will certainly bring you some laughter and a warm fuzzy feeling.
A fun game idea is to have everyone write down their first kiss experience and put it in a hat or container. Then everyone can take turns reading the stories aloud and try to guess who wrote them.
Other activities may consist of arts and crafts, where everyone makes Galentine’s Day cards from scratch. Or you can spice things up with a DIY photo booth. You can use the streamers, balloons, and other décor you bought, to use as a backdrop. Make sure to have cute props on hand, like hearts, heart eyes, kissy lips, and Galentine’s Day signs.
5. The Playlist
Since Galentine’s Day is a day of women's empowerment and appreciation. The perfect playlist will consist of songs that inspire women to be their best selves. These songs will get your party started:
“Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper
“God Is A Woman” by Ariana Grande
“Truth Hurts” by Lizzo
“Part Of Me” by Katy Perry
“Survivor” by Destiny’s Child
“Confident” by Demi Lovato
“Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson
“The Man” by Taylor Swift
“No Scrubs” by TLC
“You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore
6. Party Favors
Party favors are a sweet thoughtful gesture to conclude your party and send your friends home with. Party favors are a nice reminder of how fun your party was and a good way to show your friends how much you cherish them.
Whatever you decide to do for party favors, you should add a handwritten note for each of your friends. Include something personal and meaningful to your friendship.
Have a beautiful Galentine’s Day!
