AMW Wedding Review #1 - Megan + Hunter

Welcome to our brand new wedding review series! We are so excited to take you step by step through some of our favorite weddings and our couple's love stories!

This week, we are featuring Megan & Hunter Youmans! They recently had their wedding on March 5th, 2021 with the help of AMW at Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, SC! AMW also planned Megan and Hunter's elopement during the peak of COVID-19 back in March of 2020. We were so excited for this long awaited celebration and can't wait to show all of the details below!

The Proposal

Megan and Hunter met on Bumble as students at The University of South Carolina and the rest was history! They did long distance for 7 months and for their reunion they decided to take a relaxing trip to Mexico. On one of the days of the trip, Hunter took it into his hands to plan the perfect excursion off of the resort. He hired Bushman Photography for professional photos to capture their experiences. They went swimming in the Cenote, visited the Mayan ruins, lunch at a boutique hotel and then headed to the monkey jungle. Hunter led Megan to a dock that overlooked the sunset on the lake and got down on one knee. Obviously, Megan said "YES!"

The Location

Megan and Hunter got married at Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina. Hunter and Megan are both from our beautiful state of South Carolina! Megan grew up going to Charleston multiple times a year for vacations and to see friends and family, therefore, she knew it would be the perfect place for her wedding! Megan was living in Texas at the time and chose Boone Hall sight unseen. They did not even have to take a tour to know that the beautiful Avenue of the Oaks and the Cotton Dock were the perfect locations to say "I Do"!

The Fashion

Megan wore a classic, elegant, mermaid gown by Essence of Australia that was purchased from Ladies of Lineage in Fort Mill, SC. Megan added a belt for a little bit of sparkle, and a cathedral length veil with lace embellishments along the trim. For the reception, Megan changed into a sparkly A-line dress from Lulu's so she could dance and have fun comfortably throughout the night!

Hunter ordered his suit from The Black Tux. A really fun detail that they decided to add to Hunter’s suit was a personalized patch with their monogram and wedding date on it! They also incorporated custom cufflinks! Megan and Hunter met on Bumble, and had each other’s names in their phones as Hunter- bumble bee emoji- and Megan- honey pot emoji. The two emojis were printed into custom wooden cufflinks to symbolize how they met.

The bridesmaids wore mismatched styles of steel blue dresses from Show Me Your Mumu! The girls loved being able to choose their own style! The groomsmen's suits were also from The Black Tux and they all wore fun socks as a gift from the groom!

The Colors and Theme

Megan and Hunter's love for nature, landscapes, and wooden elements led to a "rustic elegance" themed wedding. They knew the venue spoke for the nature aspect of their vision with it's raw beauty. They then used gold, steel blue, and champagne accents to achieve the elegant and classy look. It turned out perfect!

Megan and Hunters color palette was dusty blue and sage/natural green with champagne, gold, and blush accents!

"Alexandra Madison Weddings executed my vision and color palette perfectly! They were so helpful and creative with the design of my wedding and I couldn't be more thankful!"

The Florals

Megan and Hunter hired Caroline with Juniper and Jasmine for all of their floral needs. Megan did not know much about florals but after she showed a few inspiration pictures to Caroline, Caroline brought her dream to life with ease! She used white and blush ranunculus for the bouquets and boutonnieres as well as garden and sahara roses, spray roses, white flannel flower, dusty miller, blue tweedia, bay laurel, and maidenhair fir! It was beautiful. They used most of the same flowers throughout the reception and ceremony, along with smilax vine and eleagnus for greenery. Their goal of having light and airy vibes, but also with a lot of texture was executed seamlessly!

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place in front of the Avenue of the Oaks at Boone Hall Plantation. Due to the pure beauty of the location, not much decor was needed at all! They used a few aisle floral planters, a petal toss for guests to toss into the aisle as they were introduced as husband and wife, and a floral installation on the gates!

During the ceremony, Megan and Hunter assembled a Unity Cross. Today, the couple has it hanging up in their bedroom and is a constant reminder of the promise they made to each other that day!

The Cocktail Hour

The cocktail hour took place on the patio of the Cotton Dock. They had two signature drinks, the Leila-Rita (a margarita named after their sweet pup) and the Marry Me Mojito! They also had a champagne grab on beautiful gold bookshelves from EventWorks Rentals!

Throughout the hour, they had amazing passed hors d’oeuvres including delicious smoked gouda mac and cheese rounds, fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, and fried chicken and waffle bites! Yum.

The Reception

At the reception, Megan and Hunter had a beautiful bar setup with a floral wallpaper design on the front part of the bar. Megan also hand-made a bar sign with their adorable dog, Leila on it! The linens were shades of blue and white and included floral elements with gold votives and candles as centerpieces. They had custom koozies, a wooden guestbook sign, a beautiful chandelier, and café lights to fill the space! Megan and Hunter also included a gelato cart which was Hunter's favorite food choice! One of Megan's favorite last minute adds was the “Better Together” neon sign from AMW's decor collection on one of the blank walls. It was the perfect finishing touch!

The Exit

Megan and Hunter exited their wedding with a beautiful sparkler exit! They left in a luxury black car and headed to a boutique hotel in Charleston called Hotel Emeline where they had a quick nap before they had to getaway to the airport for their honeymoon in Mexico!

Cheers to this beautiful couple and a lifetime of love! Alexandra Madison Weddings loved being a part of their special day and is definitely one that we will never forget!
