A Dream Wedding on the Chesapeake Bay: As Seen on Style Me Pretty
When Karen and March began their wedding planning journey, the goal was simple: create the best cocktail party and make it feel like home. There was no better setting than March’s childhood home along the coast of Kilmarnock, Virginia. The waterfront property was filled with pieces that felt distinctly theirs, from hand-picked family antiques to the couple’s own collection of driftwood décor—a nod to their love for the Chesapeake Bay.
The personal details woven throughout the celebration are what made the day feel so timeless and meaningful. From March’s Mother’s Day proposal, chosen in honor of his late mother, to antique silver Champagne trays passed down from Karen’s family, each element carried its own story.
The menu was handpicked as another nod to the Bay. Guests enjoyed fresh oysters or marinated crab claws served with stuffed mushrooms, caprese skewers, and other passed bites. A local baker created the signature blue-and-white Wedgwood-inspired cake, along with an original pet cake celebrating the couple’s beloved four-legged family members.
True to the “best cocktail party” vision, a 40-foot bar stretched along the back of the tent. Guests received a special ‘Huckleberry’ stirrer with their cocktails in honor of the couple’s dog.
After Karen and March said ‘I do’, guests were welcomed to relax at the bar or in one of the many custom lounge areas while enjoying delicious bites and live music. When the sun began to set, the dance floor became the center of attention. Surrounded by family, friends, and so many perfect pieces of their story, Karen and March ended the night exactly as they had envisioned it: with an unforgettable party that felt just like home.
